REBELS, Hanne Arends
With Rebels, I give form to something I have felt for a long time: that as we grow older, we seem to lose our sense of play, as if it is something we are supposed to unlearn. I wanted to do the opposite to invite my inner child to take the lead.
The making process was entirely intuitive. I walked into the glass studio with crayons and paper, drawing whatever felt right in that moment and letting those impulses determine the direction of the work. No overthinking only trust in instinct.
Together with master glassblower Gert Bullee, who by now understands the rhythm and chaos of my mind, I brought each sketch to life. We discussed the shapes in three dimensions and then simply began. No expectations, just making.
Creating Rebels felt like stepping into a space where everything was possible and nothing was too much. And that is exactly the point: reclaiming the freedom to play, to feel, to create without boundaries.
